Macedon Ranges Solar Schools

The Macedon Ranges Sustainable Living Festival is hosted by the Macedon Ranges Sustainability Group (MRSG). We are a NFP organisation with a focus on events and practical activities that promote sustainable living across the Shire of the Macedon Ranges. As a part of our work with the community, the MRSG has managed several major community solar projects in the Macedon Ranges, the first of which was the installation of a 30kW solar power system on the Woodend Primary School. This solar installation generates enough electricity to cover half of the school’s energy consumption and save thousands of dollars every year. Almost all of the energy produced is used on site (behind the meter) instead of being fed into the grid. The great advantage for schools utilising renewable energy from solar panels is the significant saving on electricity costs – the funds for which can be put to better use by the school.

Funds raised by the 2018 MRSLF through donations and participation fees will go to the Macedon Ranges Renewable Energy Fund, which will help finance the Macedon Ranges Solar Schools project. Through this initiative the we aim to help more Macedon Ranges Schools go solar!
