The production of everyday materials like steel, chemicals, plastics and cement is the source of about 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Even Australia’s comparatively small manufacturing sector causes 21% of national emissions. Without decarbonising industry, we stand little chance of limiting dangerous climate change.

Beyond Zero Emissions is showing how Australian industry can get off fossils - and thrive. CEO Vanessa will share highlights from their award-winning research - Rethinking Cement, and Electrifying Industry.

Solar PV has become a recognised and reliable method of reducing energy bills – However, that’s not the whole storey, more and more distributed solar has led to a variety of unexpected and negative effects on the electricity system. A well-designed network of battery storage systems can (and will) provide a complementary solution to these issues providing functional returns to investors and a more stable and reliable electricity grid.

While everybody is talking about installing batteries to compliment their rooftop solar, it just seems too expensive. David Bruce, from Essential Solar, will explain why battery storage is such a good idea and how it can become a realistic commercial proposition, providing real benefits – both electrically and financial.

After many years of work, the Renewable Energy Action Group of MRSG has achieved agreement by the State Government to allow formal planning of the Macedon Ranges Community Energy Park to begin. Located deep in the pine forest to the south of Woodend, the park vision is for wind and solar power with battery storage producing power equivalent to the domestic consumption of the Macedon Ranges.

Our goal is to make the Macedon Ranges carbon neutral by 2030, by leading, supporting and investing in local energy efficiency, generation and offset projects in partnership with the community, government and industry.

Join us at the Festival Main Stage in the Permaculture Garden at the rear of 47 Forest St, Woodend at 11.00am to share with you our vision for this exciting community project.

Free entry.

The Renewable Energy Action Group is a working group of the Macedon Ranges Sustainability Group.
